Mindful Moments

August Mindful Moment

We are a mindful classroom! that means, we work on strategies to settle our mind, approach complicated tasks, and enjoy each moment. We will work hard to support each other, understand our own learning, and work towards a positive mindset. To get ready for the year, we are giving you two poses to practice! Remember to breathe. That's VERY important, but don't worry, we'll practice together, too.

  1. Stand up tall and strong with your arms at your sides and your feet hip- distance apart.
  2. Rock back and forth on your feet a few times until you find a comfortable center - this is your mountain base.
  3. Find a small un-moving object across the room in your line of vision. Focus your eyes on this object. This is your “Focus Point”
  4. Inhale as you raise your shoulder towards your ears. Exhale and roll your shoulders up, back and down.
  5. As you do so, notice your weight go into your feet, and lightly anchoring you to the ground.
  6. Relax and focus on your breath.

  1. Begin in Standing Mountain
  2. Keeping your feet in place, relax your
  3. knees and begin to turn your upper body from side to side.
  4. Allow your arms to be loose and floppy so that they wrap around the back and front of your body as you twist and breathe. Go just fast enough so your arms easily flop, but not so fast that you tip over.
  5. Close your eyes and notice if there is some tension in your body you might like to wash out. As you swing your arms from side to side and exhale, imagine that tension being washed out and away from your body. Continue for five to ten breaths.
